The party chose to help Xander of Xander's Mad Magics with his request. Lee requested a revolver of some kind, which Xander promised to source after delivering his disclaimer speech.
The mission was to acquire the magical crystals that Gamma Co. discovered within the Crystalline Caverns. Xander offered two paths: secretly join the Gamma Co. expedition or follow a side cavern to cut them off. The party chose to make their own way, rather than joining Gamma Co.
Xander directed the party to a particular voidspan gate, and discovered that they were just behind the Gamma Co. party. They started off through the side cavern.
The cave contained many natural hazards to navigate, the first of which was cave bacon. Situated in a narrow spot in the cave, this razor-sharp and hot stone formation cut and burned everyone that passed by it.
In a more open area, the party encountered cave snow: a lightweight lattice of stone that, when approached, exploded in an area of cold crystals. This was detected and avoided by the party.
The party then entered a cavern where the floor and walls were made of flowstone, a stone formation that appears like solid, if wavy, rock, but was actually closer in consistency to a fine mud. While navigating the cavern, the party was attacked by Dust Elementals. During the fight, the party discovered that staying in one place would cause you to sink into the floor of the cave. The Dust Elementals were effectively dealt with, and the party moved on.
The fourth cave formation that the party encountered was cave popcorn: a collection of bubbly rock protrusions that resembled popcorn. The hazard of these exploding upon approaching them was also detected, and they were set off at a distance. Upon tasting them, the party discovered that they did indeed taste like popcorn, but had the texture of rocks.
Finally, the party caught up to the Gamma Co. expedition. The mining was already underway for the glowing purple crystals that were along the edge of this tunnel.
The party used excellent teamwork to stage an illusory threat of a cave-in caused by a natural gas explosion. All of the Gamma Co. team ran away at the threat, leaving the party all of the tools needed to complete the mining operation themselves, and take everything.
With the crystals now in their possession, the party made their way back along the tunnel they had already traversed, avoiding or mitigating the rocky hazards along the way. At the end of the tunnel, the party took a moment to see that two Gamma Co. guards were left stationed just inside the voidspan gate.
The party resumed the illusory signs of imminent danger, which caused one of the two guards to run through the gate in fear. The other, unfortunately, noticed the party!
A fight ensued, where the Gamma Co. guard fought with a sword embedded within his right arm and a pistol hidden in his left hand. Just before he died to the party's onslaught, he chose to use a wand that was hidden inside his left forearm to cast fireball centered on himself, which vaporized him.
The party returned to Xander's shop and delivered the magical crystals. He promised to open a satellite shop on the Welmet, and to source a revolver of some kind for Lee.
