 Their names and their stories have shifted as the world too has shifted, but what matters most is that people still look to them for inspiration to become heroes themselves. It's difficult to say how much actual evidence exists of these legendary heroes having ascended to Godhood or amassing enough power to be something adjacent to a God. The most common school of thought is that the stories are simply so moving that people practiced informal rituals and reverence, which eventually evolved into a somewhat formal religion today.
