Once dead, Ariyah was raised only by the power of her older sister Eilac who defeated the Raven Queen and took all the powers of death for herself. Ariyah ruled for a long time during a period where the Shadowfell was collapsing during the early days of the sundering.

All of Ariyah's children were thought slain before they could themselves have children. The great hag Graeae wants to know the location of these descendants who are known colloquially as the “Orphans of Ariyah.” Recent events have proven that at least one child survived extending the line of Ariyah and Eilac. They hid at Darkgate Manor until recent events forced the caretakers to flee with their children.
