Appearance

Ubtao has a few different depictions, mainly that of a human man with dark skin, short hair and trimmed facial hair, and strong facial features. He's occasionally portrayed as a tabaxi, with dark fur and notched ears. Both depictions have strong physiques and a semi-ageless quality, with clothing made of leathers and scales. He holds a warpick shaped like the head of tyrannosaurus rex, standing steadfast and forever vigilant. Additionally, he is also portrayed as a massive tyrannosaurus rex, twice the size of a normal one. In this form, his roar is so powerful, it sounds like hundreds of dinosaurs all roaring in unison.

Personality

Ubtao is typically known as a wise, stoic God. In the days before The Sundering, he was known to be detached, promoting an emotional distance in his followers and only sending them cryptic messages when he communed with them. In current times, depictions have shifted, particularly due to the rise in the dinosaur population. While Ubtao is still shown to be patience and impartial, he has shifted from being entirely unemotional to now being depicted in one of two ways. The first is as the Father of Dinosaurs, a creator who feels a sentimentality about his creations, caring for them and ensuring their wellbeing. The other is as The Roar of the World, a ferocious warrior who wields the strength of the dinosaurs with a confidence that has been forged into a sharp edge.

Worshippers & Practices

Ubtaoans usually decorate their temples and shrines with jungle flora, making the areas as wild as their God's creations. The plants are dutifully watered, and often act as food for herbivore dinosaurs that might make their home within these holy space. Most in the priesthood these days have some sort of dinosaur companion, or the temple might elect to have a general “herd” that everyone in that temple collectively cares for and considers their companions. Dinosaurs are often part of the rituals, and any harm done to them- outside the bounds of the natural order -is considered not only an act of heresy, but a slight against Ubtao himself.

With Ubtao also being a deity with strong ties to mazes, pathfinding rituals are quite common among his followers. A rite of passage would be to navigate through a jungle maze, and two lovers hoping to marry may need to work together to find their way out or find one another within a complex maze. When Ubtaoans pass away, the person closest with them writes their name on their gravemarker (such as a tombstone), while other friends and loved ones of the deceased each write a single word of praise on the stone, in the hopes that these words serve as a strong introduction when Ubtao meets the soul of the deceased.
