Experience an Adventure Like No Other!

Reed found an investor named Colonel Everett Best and opened the Bestial Bites & Brews tavern on The Roadhouse shard of The Road. It aimed to give everyone a taste of what it was like to be adventuring out in the Aether and exploring the Shards. The interior of BBB is dressed as a jungle. Several of the plants are real–benign samples transplanted from the jungles of Crannathragh and The Painted Jungle–and there are a number of illusions, paintings, and artificial plants rounding out the ambiance of the tavern. It's hot and humid–enough to be mildly uncomfortable. To inexperienced adventurers, it’s pretty convincing.

“Wild” animals and other beasts, some of them trained beasts, and others druids shifted into animal form, deliver drinks and engage with the patrons in various ways. There are also many of the sentient bipedal races all wearing primitive and primal garb as they wait tables and seat patrons. Other employees dress like “real” adventurers and wander around getting “attacked” by the trained beasts and shifted druids. These exhibitionist fights are one of the more authentic aspects of the BBB as most of the participants are seasoned adventurers, Voyager members, and experienced scouts from among the Shards.

About a month after the tavern’s opening, it happened! A patron winked at Reed and asked if they could go someplace private to talk. Expecting it to be some kind of trap, or a request for a “more intimate physical interaction”, Reed agreed anyway, thinking he’d done worse to survive. He couldn’t have been more incorrect. The patron whispered they knew he was a druid in wild shape form and didn’t want to break the illusion for the others, but they needed help treating a wound.

These private session requests became increasingly regular: Asking about information on certain Shards, wound treatments, story-time for kids, therapeutic animal companionship, playing with kids or kids riding “wild” animals, or arranging purchases of rations and Goodberries for an expedition. Even the occasional illiterate person would ask him to read and write for them. Nothing like what Reed expected!

Within a few months of opening, the Bestial Bites & Brews tavern has become a bustling place for both the adventurer-for-a-day in need of distraction from their daily lives and the adventurer-for-life in need of supplies, information, rumors, news and help.
