Until Our Roads Meet Again

Session Date: 06/26/2025
Game Master: Rew

Player Characters

  • Griffin Lee Atwood, Half-Elf Horizon Walker Ranger (Hal)
  • Keeka Yazgash, Orc Bard (Sheila)
  • Kip Cescorna, Human Chronomancer Wizard (Jian)
  • Psithuris Mithrilwood, High Elf Circle of the Stars Druid (Quinton)
  • Slate, Warforged Giant Barbarian (Andy H)

Named People and Places

  • The Hospice of Eilac - This shard is sacred to the worship of the Well Met hero Eilac. Until recently, one or more caretakers looked after the great temple there, which is considered the most holy site where the great Shadowfell leader Ariyah was reborn and retired to at the end of her mortal days.
  • Umbersnake - A wretched, malformed, serpentine dragon who lost a bet with Graeae, forced to guard the Hospice, the greatest link between the dead and the living in the whole province of The Road.

Major Plot Points

  • A “mysterious benefactor” funds a trip to an out of the way shard found on no map for Kip and his friends.
  • Keeka purchases a pistol for Lee who will work in their restaurant / bar until the debt is paid off
  • The Homeshard Heroes are attacked by Umbersnake, a serpentine black dragon as they approach the shard.
  • Kip's friendly pygmy dinosaur Finn takes control of the voidship as Kip fights the threat.
  • The dragon's breath destroys the voidship's Vendro drives, and it begins to plummet toward the shard.
  • It is a harrowing battle, and several heroes are knocked unconscious causing them to suffer exhaustion.
  • As the Homeshard Heroes abandon ship, Finn is mercilessly murdered by the dragon Umbersnake. The voidship lands hard, but is not completely destroyed.
  • The heroes evade the dragon and decide to find a place to rest and hide.
  • Kip has an eerie feeling that time itself does not exist on this hallowed shard. It lies beyond reality and space and holds secrets about the nature of the Aetherverse that could prove to be beneficial to his studies in the future.
  • The group spends a long rest in a lonely tower that was once inhabited by the caretakers of this hallowed place. They realize that Eilac let the last one “retire” almost fifty years ago.
  • The Homeshard Heroes reach a temple of death and rebirth, known as The Hospice of Eilac.
  • Inside are runes that describe the story of Eilac, a deity who was once mortal.
    • The Raven Queen took Ariyah from Eilac early, forcing Eilac into servitude.
    • Eilac struggled to get her sister back, serving the queen unfailingly.
    • Ultimately; Eilac took the Raven Queen's power over death and dying.
    • Ariyah was reborn and lived a full and productive life as a great leader of the Shadar-Kai.
    • Ariyah returned to the Hospice at the end of her time to return to her sister's side.
    • Nothing dies here without Eilac’s blessing.
  • The expedition decides that they need to face this dragon before doing any work to repair Kip's voidship. They fashion a raft to cross the swampy lake to the dragon's cave on an island.
  • They are ambushed by the dragon from the water itself. In the ensuing battle, several heroes are knocked down and Keeka is slain.
  • Slate grows to the same size as the dragon and carries on a giant mecha / kaiju fight with the snake-like dragon. His blows knock out the dragon's teeth and slash off its stupid, useless, T-rex arms.
  • As a group, the party returns to the temple. There, Keeka's body is given to Eilac. After a brief interaction, Eilac tells Keeka that she too was once an adventurer named Calledras Shadowblade. Keeka tells the deity that she would like to return, and she is returned to life. A bell rings in the eaves of the temple heralding her return.
  • Kip's dinosaur companion Finn is also revived.
  • The Homeshard Heroes repair Kip's voidship (poorly). They return to civilization.
